Leadership Transition Meeting!
January 20, 2007, Layton

New Leadership Initiatives
1. Emphasize Area Coordinators
Because the population of Utah is so spread out geographically, Area Coordinators (also called “Host or Hostess”) will be the anchors for Utah Mensa. Area Coordinators will be responsible for being sure that two or three events take place each month in their Area. These events may be dinners, coffee shop get togethers, or SIGs. Area Coordinators are needed for Cache Valley, Utah County and Southwest Utah.

2. Pay for Leader’s Memberships
We have a significant amount of money in our coffers, so as a way to encourage leadership participation, we will reimburse the membership fee of anyone to takes a “significant leadership role.” This includes the elected Board, Membership Coordinator, Area Coordinators, and chairs such as Scholarship and Testing. This program will last for one year, then we will review our finances and effectiveness of the program.

3. Improve Member Communication and Acknowledgements
This initiative will take place on several fronts. The Synapse and Website will be brought into alignment (currently the calendars do not match). A membership survey (by phone) will be done to find out what Utah Mensa members want. The Synapse will provide profiles of those members who chose to participate, and will acknowledge new members, birthdays and member news.

Utah Mensa Board Meeting Reports

Utah Mensa March Board Meeting Significant Items:

- Detailed discussion of “The Testing Problem”, i.e. the lack of any proctors and a rapidly building list of people who want to be tested. Primary idea was to try to get testing done by the universities or other private sources until we can get new proctors qualified. Critical to find a Testing Coordinator to take ownership and solve the problem.
- Bukhosi to withdraw funds from Mountain America Credit Union and establish a new account with Wells Fargo.
- New editors welcomed; presented their proposed new format; and presented their proposed budget, which was approved.

Utah Mensa April Board Meeting Significant Items:

- Paperwork signed appointing James Bjorkman as new Testing Coordinator; further brainstorming about how to get testing done
- Bukhosi completed transfer of funds and reported our financial status (elsewhere in this Synapse)
- Membership survey reviewed and revised, to be included in an upcoming Synapse and published by e-mail and on the website.
- Activities brainstorming, two possible new SIGs, including a Game SIG in Salt Lake County and a Movie SIG (see Calendar)
